Teacher Moment Tuesday- Get Help

Today teacher moment Tuesday is dictated to my friend Joe. I recently lost a friend in a car accident, because of drinking and driving.

Drinking and driving is very serious, and it affects so many people. Words cannot describe how I feel right now. I’m in shock and disbelief. Here are a few statistics I got from the website MADD (Mothers against drunk driving)

1.       One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime.

2.       In 2011, 9,878 people died in drunk driving crashes - one every 53 minutes.

3.       An average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before first arrest.

4.       Impairment is not determined by the type of drink, but rather by the amount of alcohol ingested over a specific period of time.

5.       Approximately 350,000 were injured. Each crash, each death, each injury impacts not only the person in the crash, but family, friends, classmates, coworkers and more.

I hope these statistics help you realize the impact drinking and driving has on so many people. Below I have listed a few sites to visit to get help with a drinking problem.  Don’t be afraid to get help or don’t be afraid to help someone else. You could save a life.

Get help

Al-Anon is a group that helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the drinking problem of a relative or friend. Al-Anon has meetings all over the world.

Alateen is a recovery program for young people affected by the drinking problem of a friend or relative. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.

Your doctor, counselor, or other health professional can provide you with information and literature to assist you in helping someone with an alcohol use problem.

Local or national alcohol treatment hotlines can direct you to local organizations that can assist you in helping someone with an alcohol use problem.

Slow Down Nelle

Hey Glamour Girls! I'm back! I have been extremely busy the last few days. This week I will be back to posting regularly. I know ten days is really not a long time but for me it was.

In our everyday lives we have so much going on, we are so busy. We have so many things to do, and so many places to go. The last thing we are thinking about is slowing down. Slowing down or not doing it at all is not an option.  The past few days I have realized that I need to slow down some, and consider taking a different approach when faced with obstacles in my life. I encourage you to pray, think about the direction of your life, show gratitude, do something good for someone else, simply live in the moment, rest, and make time in your life for the things that matter. Be patient with yourself.
