Teacher Moment Tuesday- Diversity

Hey Glamour Girls! It’s Tuesday so of course I would like to share something educational. This morning I was reading the USA Today newspaper and came across an article about President Obama and his cabinet. If you girls don’t know President Obama has been criticized for his cabinet picks, some feels as if he does not have enough diversity in his cabinet.

Monday April 29, 2013 President Obama nominated Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to be the next Transportation secretary.  This nomination could help dull persistent criticism over the racial diversity of his cabinet.  Mayor Foxx is the second African American mayor in Charlotte’s history. He’s 42 years old and has made big changes in Charlotte since becoming major; he’s looked to as a young political star.

If Foxx is confirmed by the Senate he will become the third African American to serve in President Obama’s second-term cabinet, joining two others Attorney General Eric Holder and United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice.

President Obama has boasted of his White House’s diversity and urged critics not to judge the Cabinet’s makeup until he finished his picks. He still needs to choose a Commerce secretary and U.S. Trade Representative. In announcing the nomination President Obama focused on Foxx’s accomplishments and upbringing not his race.  I think this shows that the President is more focused on getting the job done, than the race of the person he picks.

I wish Foxx the best, and I hope people can stop criticizing the President so much about this cabinet picks.

Embrace Your Body Type

Hey Glamour Girls! Over the weekend I attended a “What to wear event” presented by I am woman. At the event they talked about embracing your body type and dressing your body according to the proportions of your body.  We need to focus more on our shape and not our height and weight. Each of us is unique and our bodies are too.

The speaker categorized four general body types; pear, rectangle, apple, and hourglass. You might be one category or you may fall into two categories.  Once you determine your body shape you can begin to consider with fashion trends to embrace and which to avoid. Everyone is not meant to look the same and as women we need to understand that.

Pear Body Shape- Your lower body is wider than your upper body. Your bottom is rounded and your waist is well-defined. Your best assets are your shoulders, torso, and flat stomach.  Emphasize your waist and arms, add volume to your shoulders and upper body and minimize your hips.

Rectangle Body Shape- The waist, hip and shoulder widths are similar and are usually on the slim side. Slender rectangles have an athletic look about them.  Your best assets are your arms and legs. Create curves and show off slender legs and arms.

Apple Body Shape- Most of your weight accumulates above the hips, which are narrow. Your back, ribs, and shoulders are broad, and you may feel wider than other body types. Your best asset is your legs. Extend the torso, show off your legs and use fashion to create the illusion of a waist.

Hourglass Body Type- Your shoulders and hips are similar in proportion and set off by a tiny waist. Your best assets are your curves. Show off your curves without going overboard.

This is not my personal opinion. I just thought I would share with you ladies what was presented at the event. My message to you is embrace your body type! Accept the way you look or do something about it.

Today is the last day to enter the blog giveaway!!!!

Denim +Leopard = Neon

Hey Glamour Girls! Yesterday I took my nephew to see Kindrick Lamar. I wanted to reward him for doing great in school and encourage him to keep up the good work. Things have been rocky for him but I’m not giving up on him. He had such a great time. I love to show support to children and encourage them to do their best, I guess that’s why I’m a teacher.  Now on to what I wore.

I had no idea what I was going to wear. I came home from work and just start going through my closet, and thirty minutes later this is what I came up with. The shirt is really a button down but I only buttoned 3 and tied the end to create this look.  I was going for a casual and comfortable look. My room was a disaster after but hey that happens all the time. Feel free to leave your comments below and don’t forget to enter the blog giveaway!  Like Educated Glamour Girl on Facebook

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hey Glamour Girls! Happy Friday! I’m so excited this is the last day of the work week, I’m exhausted!

On Wednesday night I celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday, and the forecast predicted rain showers and thunderstorms. I was upset about the forecast. I wanted to wear a cute dress but I was not in the mood after hearing about the weather. I decided to wear a pair of boyfriend jeans, a loose fit blouse, and wedges. I kept my accessories simple just earrings, no bracelets or necklace. You don’t have to wear a lot of accessories all the time.  Check out my look below. I love the spring but I’m over this rain already. Come on May! Enjoy your weekend.

Hey Glamour Girls! Baseball is really big here in St. Louis, as many of you already know.  Monday was opening day for the Cardinals. Cardinals opening day is an unofficial holiday for St. Louis.  At work the staff and students decided to wear red to show support for the cardinals. I decided to wear my red skater dress. I love this dress because I can dress it up or down, and the length is perfect for work.  Go cards!

My Weight Loss Journey

Hey Glamour Girl! Today I wanted to share my weight loss journey with you all. I don’t have a pound for pound amount of weight I loss but all I know is that I feel good. This journey has been a struggle for me. The picture on the left is me last year in March and the pic on the right is me this April. I did not have a special diet or any book. I just changed my lifestyle little by little. Along this journey of mine I gave up, lost track and got back on track.  It’s not a drastic change but its progression, and I’m proud of it.
I still eat sweets but not as much, I stop eating fried foods, I work-out and prey for the strength to keep it up. Here are a few tips that worked for me.  Yes I have a little ways to go but this is where I am now.

  •          Eat oatmeal and a piece of fruit for breakfast every day and one day out the week I would eat my  favorite  food for  breakfast food such has pancakes, French toast, or waffles
  •          Don’t hang out with people who don’t care about being fat; you would start not caring again
  •          Wing yourself off fried foods
  •          Keep a food journal and write down the things you eat, I know it sounds weird but it worked for me
  •          Workout at least 2 times a week
  •          Find something that’s going to motivate you to lose the weight
  •          Plan out your meals
  •          When you crave something just have it or you will end up eating more of it later
  •          No buffets just stay away girl
  •          Drink plenty of water! NO SOADS and less juice as possible
  •          Research some healthy recipes
  •          Have a cheat day or you will go crazy

LBD Collaboration

Hey Glamour Girl! I recently was invited to participate in a Little Black Dress (LBD) collaboration for curvy girls with other bloggers. We had to create a look using that perfect little black dress.  The blogger hosting the collaboration is 24 Plus Style Blog  check her blog out. She will be creating a post that involves all the bloggers that participated.

I decided to wear a black skater dress for the collaboration. Skater dresses and skirts are really big right now. I’m in love with my Jessica Simpson’s Kadi T-Strap Sandals so I wore them with a two toned lime clutch to pick up the lime in the shoe, and kept  my accessories simple.

Thanks again 24 Plus Style Blog  for considering me for the collaboration. Glamour Girls don’t forget to visit her blog to see how all the bloggers styled their LBD.
